Artist Statement

My work is all about storytelling. I love capturing the nuance of a moment, whether that’s through an intricate phrase of movement, the way dancers interact on stage, or the way space, sound, and design come together to enhance the experience. With my background in Dance Performance and Choreography and Communication Design, I see dance as more than movement—it’s visual composition, emotion, and structure all at once.

I’ve gotten to grow my artistry through so many experiences and performance opportunities, but what excites me most isn’t the performance itself; it’s the process. Connecting with my dancers and peers impacts the way I perform and choreograph, but also the way I show up in life. Being able to choreograph on talented artists and explore the experiences and nuances they bring into the studio allows for new discoveries. I adore collaborating and feeding on what makes others unique to create something cohesive. The moments where movement shifts from something planned to something felt is truly inspiring.

In my work, Loose Pages, I really got to explore my own experiences interweaving with the experiences of my dancer. Mere Leigh Peck, my peer, collaborator, and my closest friend, worked with me on exploring the way we both navigated a similar college experience, while implementing our own individual standout moments. With a similar trajectory, we both had individual, impactful lived experiences at different points on the timeline of the piece that shaped how the work came together which created a story that was personal to both of us.

I’ve always believed that movement is more than just steps, it’s a way of making sense of the world. Dance has been my constant, the thing that pushes me, grounds me, and connects me to others. Whether I’m performing, choreographing, or simply existing in a space with movement, I’m always searching for moments of realness, those in-between spaces where dance feels the most human.
